A Day in My Life in Seoul

I traveled to Seoul, South Korea as part of a study abroad program I had gotten into. It was my first time ever traveling out of the country, and I did not speak one word of Korean. As you can imagine, it was a bit of an adjustment for me. I had only traveled to one big city in the United States before this, and still there was no comparison to how large Seoul actually was.

Daily Routine

I studied at Yonsei University, which is close to the downtown area of Sinchon district in Seoul. There were multiple other universities in the surrounding areas, and they contributed to a fun and lively neighborhood with things to do everywhere. I was surrounded by kids my age, and as 21 year olds do, we were never home and always finding something new to do in the city, no matter how far. Having a daily routine in a city such as this does not exist. There were amazing things to do everywhere you went, and even if you had planned your day to the minute, new things popped up that begged you to deviate from your schedule and explore. You could say my daily routine in Seoul was to find something new, crazy, and fun to do, instead of a scheduled routine.

My Favorite Memory

One day I remember being especially fun and exciting, my friends and I traveled 45 minutes away to the neighborhood of Jung-gu to see the Namsan Tower. It was quite interesting getting there, and my friend Bree and I got sidetracked by the best parts of Jung-gu, fun K-Pop stores and all you can eat Tteokbokki. We ended up being late, and had to run up hundreds of stairs to get to the gondola up the mountain in time. We squeezed into the cabin with about 20 other random people, and got to see an amazing sunset through the small windows of the gondola.

The Final View

Running up all of those stairs was completely worth it once we got to see the tower and the thousands of love locks attached on every part of the mountain. It really was the best viewpoint in Seoul, especially while the sunset gave way to an amazing night view of the city, and I was reminded once again how big and beautiful Seoul really was. It was a city of fun and opportunity, and was one of the best places I have ever had the pleasure of going.
